Granola is one of the most favored of recent trending meals on earth. It is simple, it is quick, it tastes yummy. It’s enjoyed by millions daily. They’re fine and they look wonderful. Granola is something that I’ve loved my whole life.
I learned this recipe while working at a Bed and Breakfast in DC. This granola recipe is tried and tested, I bring with me all my camping trips. It also makes a very filling and delicious breakfast.
To get started with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few components. You can have granola using 22 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Granola:
- Make ready "dry ingredients"
- Get 7 cups old fashioned oats
- Make ready 1 cup wheat bran
- Get 1 cup flax meal

- Take 1/4 cup canola, coconut or olive oil
- Make ready 1/4 cup applesauce
- Get 1/2 cup brown or raw sugar
- Take 1/2 cup honey or agave

Cool in pans on wire racks. Granola is loaded with healthy ingredients like oats, nuts, seeds and fruit. First, press the granola into an even layer before you put it in the oven, then stir it only once halfway through cooking. For really good clumps, press down on the finished granola before it cools and avoid jostling it on the pan until cooled completely.
Steps to make Granola:
- Preheat oven to 275° F or 135° C
- Mix oats, bran & flax in a large roasting pan.
- Whisk the "flavorings" together and then drizzle over the oat mixture. Stir until evenly moist.
- Bake for 1-1/2 hours – stirring every 15 minutes.
- After the third stirring, add the "nuts, seeds & fruits".
- Bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
- NOTE: I have experimented with the balance and quantities of the fats and sugars. As I reduced the fat, the texture went from crunchy to chewy. I did not have success with less than 1/4 cup of fat. I have also sometimes replaced the more processed sugars with unsweetened frozen juice concentrate.
- Serving size - 1/4 cup
Knowing when the granola is done. In a large bowl, combine the oats, nuts, coconut, and brown sugar. In a separate bowl, combine maple syrup, oil, and salt.
